Fear is a common feeling for those who put off going to the dentist. Often having a previous negative dental experience can create an intense fear of dental work, often preventing people from receiving dental care they really need. Sedation dentistry is a contemporary technique that provides a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for people receiving dental treatments.

Sedation dentistry enables patients to become drowsy and generally sleep throughout their whole dental treatment, avoiding the common apprehension known as dental phobia. Using an I.V. sedation device the dental phobia dentist can bring patients to a state where they do not feel anything, though they are capable of breathing on their own. The I.V. system allows dentists to monitor and adjust the level of anaesthesia more precisely than any other methods.

People who benefit sedation dentistry during a procedure are those who dislike dental Injections, gag easily, detest the notice of dental equipment or have sensitive teeth. Sedation dentistry is also effective if a patient needs to undergo a complex dental procedure or a treatment that will consume a long period of time. Sedation dentistry can make you feel comfortable during the treatment and help you achieve a smile you can be proud of Intravenous sedation dentistry has a number of benefits for those who suffer from dental anxieties.

IV sedation allows for less recovery time from dental surgery and reduces the chance of any nausea. Also throughout the procedure you do not have to rely on a breathing device either in your trough or vocal cords, as you are capable of breathing on your own. By visiting an IV sedation dentist they can help you overcome your dental anxieties and fear allowing you to receive the dental care you need.

The Key To Comfort

For many people the most nerve-wracking part of a dental visit is the ‘needle’. If an area is numbed inexpertly or too quickly, a sharp stinging sensation can be felt.  We ensure you experience is as painless as possible and completely comfortable at all times.  We have three kinds of sedation available at Designer Dental Studio, in addition to local anaesthetic:

Intravenous Sedation (IV)
IV sedation, also known as “twilight” sedation, does not result in a loss of consciousness. The drug causes amnesia, so your memory of the dental appointment will be limited, if anything.

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous Oxide, also known as laughing gas, is a form of inhalation sedation. You will maintain awareness of your surroundings, while feeling relaxed and calm.

Penthrox
Penthrox is another form of inhalation sedation that relaxes and calms you during treatment. As with laughing gas, you still maintain an awareness of your surroundings.

Local Anaesthetic Only
Local anaesthetic is a solution injected into the soft tissues of the mouth in order to achieve anaesthesia, or ‘numbness’. This ensures you feel no pain during your dental appointment.

Most traumatic dental experiences stem from pain felt due to inadequate local anaesthesia. At Designer Dental Studio we know that sedation is the key to a comfortable dental treatment.
