Do you have a cracked tooth?
December 3, 2008 by admin
The fear many people have is that one day they will massively crack a tooth. The pain from a bad toothache is what drives that fear. Did you know that you may have a cracked tooth already?
Most people don’t experience any symptoms from a cracked tooth. The tooth is pain free until part of the tooth or filling materials breaks or fractures. It is at that moment, your toothache becomes an emergency.
More often than not, amalgam fillings are the major contributor to cracked teeth. The main reason for this is that amalgam filling material doesn’t bond to the tooth structure perfectly. For this reason, when a cavity in a tooth is prepared, the dentist must place ‘undercuts’ in the tooth structure of the prepared cavity. This is a mechanical solution to a chemical problem. This process significantly weakens the tooth structure.
By identifying a cracked tooth early preventative steps can be taken. Here at the Designer Dental Studio we guide through the process at our consultation and your cracked teeth shouldn’t be an issue any more.
